于化鲤先生1933年出生于天津市，笔名于化。他自幼学绘画，早年从事商业广告，1952年参加天津市美术工作者协会工作，后调入天津市美术工作室、天津人民美术出版社从事美术编辑工作。曾任天津人民美术出版社总编辑、编审、《中国漫画》杂志主编、中国版画家协会年画研讨 会常务理事、《年画艺术》杂志副主编、中国美协天津分会常务理事、天津科普作家协会美术专业委员会主任、中国美术出版研讨 会副会长，曾任中国美协第1 、二届漫画艺委会委员，享用 政府特殊津贴。
他1956年开始发表漫画，并广泛涉猎年画、连环画、宣扬 画、插图、儿童美术、中国画、漫画等。漫画代表作《谁说我目中无人》、《大鬼小鬼进不来》、《老鼠过街》、《无题有感》等被中国美术馆、炎黄艺术博物馆收藏，并被收入《中国新文艺大系》、《中国美术?50年》等画册当中 。作品也曾多次参加日本、德国、法国、挪威、比利时等国际漫画艺术展览。1985年曾以中国漫画家的身份随团赴日本访问考察。出版有《中国漫画书系：于化鲤卷》《于化鲤漫画选》。传略被编入《中国美术家人名词典》、《中国古代 美术家名鉴》、《中国当代书画家名人大辞典》、《中国出版人名词典》。
他笔下的漫画人物外型 端庄、构图丰满，运笔、设色具有民族神韵 。他在创作的同时也曾为辅导漫画新人和参与创办《中国漫画》杂志等方面付出了很大的血汗 ，1994年获得“中国漫画金猴奖（成就奖）”。
