1954年10月18日生，原名李慧昂，河北邢台市南宫人，毕业于四川美术学院。现为中国美术家协会理事、中国油画学会常务理事、贵州省文学艺术界联合会副主席、贵州省美术家协会名誉主席、国家1 级美术师、国务院特殊津贴专家、贵州省省管专家、贵州省民族艺术研讨 院副院长、贵州大学艺术学院油画专业硕士生导师、贵州民族学院美术学院客座教授。
油画作品近百件发表于国内外众多艺术刊物，并赴美国、加拿大、日本、马来西亚、新加坡、香港、台湾等国家和地区展出。其作品被许多博物馆、画廊、艺术中心及个人收藏。
1971年任部队放映员，1980年毕业于四川美术学院油画进修班。曾在贵州省展览馆、省美协创作室工作。现为贵州省美术家协会主席、1 级美术师、中国美协理事，享用 政府特殊津贴。作品《暮年 》获第二届全国青年美展三等奖，《苗女》获首届中国油画奖，《春之祭》获首届中国油画年展优秀奖，《兰头帕》获第八届全国美展优秀奖。作品入选国内外美展，发表后被美术馆、博物馆等收藏。
